How to Add Nicknames to iPhone Contacts

When we save contacts in our phone especially when either the contacts or the phone is new, sometimes we fell easier to use a nickname for saving the contact instead of it’s real one. Or otherwise it could be said like that, if you want your phone to show your contacts by using their short name instead of the traditional contacts name then there is good news for you. You will get these facilities on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iOS 7 or later.

How to Add Nicknames to iPhone Contacts

About Short Name

In your iPhon Short Name is on by default. The Short Name settings will be applicable for Mail, Messages, Phone, and some third-party apps.

So if you want to turn this off, then just follow the steps bellow.

  • First tap to the Settings
  • Then tap to ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars’ and then tap Short Name.
  • Short Name settings will be appeared on your screen,
  • Just choose the option you prefer.

About Nicknames

To save contacts by their nicknames in your iPhone, you will have to follow the steps bellow..

  • First just tap the Contacts icon on your iPhone
  • Then go to the Contact you want to set up with a nickname.
  • Tap the Edit Contact option and then Add Field then Nickname.
  • Then just add the nickname you want to use and then tap to the Done.

In case you want to remove a nickname, then follow these steps:

  • First just tap the Contacts icon on your iPhone
  • Then go to the Contact you want to remove the nickname
  • Tap Edit Contact option
  • Delete the Nickname field.
  • Tap Done.
