Apple releases guidelines for creating third-party Apple Watch bands

Apple has released guidelines for creating third-party Apple Watch bands today, paving the way for accessory makers to work their magic.

The guidelines detail exact specifications for third-part Apple Watch bands, detailing everything from the specific tests each band should pass, to recommended materials for the bands themselves.

Outside of the specific tests and recommended materials, the guidelines also specify that third-party bands must adhere to environmental regulations in the regions in which the bands are to be sold. Importantly, Apple also notes that adherence to these guidelines doesn’t entitle manufacturers to label their products as “Made for Apple Watch” without going through the proper channels to receive certification.

The full document is a fairly dry read, but hopefully with the release of the guidelines, we’ll start to see many more third-party offerings for Apple Watch bands. If you’d like to give the document a quick look-through for yourself, you can do so from the source link below.
